This is the story of a Colorado railroad that was only 31 miles long and built on level ground. It never owned more than 4 locomotives and 20 cars at any one time, yet it managed to survive financial crisis after financial crisis to reach the age of 67 in solvent condition. This book traces the beginnings of the San Luis Southern in 1909. Along the way it presents a history of an area of the San Luis Valley and the people who called it home.
