This book tells the story of one of the city’s two great street railway sysrems of the recent past. San Francisco was one of the first big cities tocreate a municipal street railway, but looming always larger in scope were the famed White Front Cars of the Market Square Railway. This company was the backbone of the city’s mass transit from 1921 to 1944, when it was purchased by the city and merged with the smaller Municipal Railway.
